Greening The Desert Project

PERMACULTURE DEMONSTRATION SITE

Sustainable Livelihoods Through Permaculture Design

The Greening the Desert Project is a permaculture demonstration site, café, restaurant, and eco-accommodation based in Jordan. It serves as a living example of how regenerative agriculture can restore degraded landscapes and support sustainable livelihoods.

Offering permaculture design courses, farm tours, and cultural experiences, the project provides hands-on education to visitors from around the world. Over the years, it has worked closely with the United Nations and the Kingdom of the Netherlands to promote environmental restoration and food security in arid regions.

BRAND IDENTITY

Designing a Connected Brand Ecosystem

The Greening the Desert Project is associated with the Global Permaculture Research Institute and affiliated with Discover Permaculture and Zaytuna Farm.

In addition to creating a unique brand identity for the Greening the Desert Project, we conducted a brand architecture strategy to ensure cohesion across all affiliated brands. The leaf symbol, a unifying element across these brands, was incorporated alongside dunes and the letter ‘D’ to create a distinct yet connected identity for the Greening the Desert Project

WEB DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT

Custom Website Design and Development

Our brief was to custom-design and develop a WordPress website with multiple booking functionalities and donation capabilities. The site needed to support bookings for tours, courses, experiences, and accommodation while showcasing authentic Jordanian food. It also aimed to attract volunteers and encourage donations for various permaculture aid projects. The website needed to serve and appeal to a diverse audience, including local Jordanians, international visitors, and major donors such as global organizations and funding bodies. We provided copywriting services for the entire website and associated brand channels.

SIGNAGE

Cultural Signage & Practical Wayfinding

Signage and wayfinding were essential for the Greening the Desert Café and demonstration site, which welcomes a diverse range of visitors—from local and international guests to volunteers and even royalty.

The café signage was designed to reflect the brand identity while honouring Jordanian culture and permaculture principles (Earth Care, People Care, Return of Surplus). The wayfinding system was designed to support self-guided tours while also incorporating the logos of the organisations that funded the project.

REPORTS

Communicating Project Impact

We developed a professionally designed Progress Monitoring Report to effectively communicate the ongoing success and impact of the project to past and prospective donors. The printed booklet encompassed essential elements such as the project background, an overview of key activities, and information on funding and donations.

Rich with visuals, it featured powerful quotes and a range of images documenting the demonstration site’s transformation—from its initial state to its current development. Carefully crafted to align with the brand’s identity, the report was also designed as a flexible template for future use, ensuring consistency and ease of adaptation in subsequent reports.
